The Physical Therapist Assistant program offered at Kapi‘olani Community College (KCC) leads to employment as a physical therapist assistant. By completing the physical therapist assistant course, you will earn an Associate of Science degree. The AS degree 72-72 credits and will take about 5 semesters to complete.
Associate of Science
The Physical Therapist Assistant program takes about 5 semester to complete the 72-73 credit program. Students will learn about rehabilitation by taking courses such as anatomy, kinesiology, and electrotherapy. Graduates will be eligible to sit for the national exam to get licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA).
Admissions Process
There are several steps to the Physical Therapist Assistant admissions process and you can begin some of the steps before the next application period begins.
- Attend Mandatory Information Session
- All sessions will be held on Zoom due to Covid-19.
- Seek Advising with Health Careers Counselors
- In-person counseling is currently suspended. Phone or Zoom appointments can be scheduled by calling the Health Careers Counseling Center at (808) 734-9224 or emailing them at hlthsci@hawaii.edu.
- Take the ACCUPLACER WriterPlacer Placement Test
- You must receive a score of 5 or higher or qualification of ENG 100.
- Apply to the Physical Therapist Assistant Program
Certification
Graduates of the phlebotomy are eligible to sit for the National Physical Therapy examination. After passing the exam, you can get your Physical Therapist Assistant license in Hawaiʻi.
Accreditation
The Phlebotomy program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
Kapi‘olani Community College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) which is a regional accrediting commission. The ACCJC is accredited by both the USDE and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
